Are you an artist or artisan who is looking for a place to sell your handmade creations? The Barrie Farmers’ Market, Barrie Arts Committee, the Creative Economy Department of the City of Barrie are hosting four special events this summer for local artists and makers. Non-food entrepreneurs from Barrie and Simcoe County are welcome to apply by May 18 for markets on:
- Saturday June 15
- Saturday July 20
- Saturday August 17
- Saturday September 21
The Barrie Artists and Makers Markets will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the grounds of Barrie City Hall around the fountain, next to the Barrie Farmers’ Market. The BAM Markets are a separate event, but the farmers’ market is using its management expertise and knowledge of the site to help everything run without a hitch.
Stalls are maximum 10′ x 10′ and vendors are responsible for all of their own equipment. Fees per stall are $50 per market or you can attend all four markets for $150.
As these are outdoor markets, vendors must be prepared for all weather. Just like the farmers’ market, these events are rain or shine.
Applications are due by Saturday, May 18, but you are encouraged to submit it in advance. You can:
- mail it to the Barrie Farmers’ Market at PO Box 20155, Barrie, ON, L4M 6E9,
- scan and email it to info@barriefarmersmarket.ca, or
- drop it off in person to Patricia Lancia, Barrie Farmers’ Market Manager, at any Saturday market.
Applications will be vetted by an expert selection committee, which is looking for a wide variety of handmade products and original artwork. Vendors are not permitted to resell products made by someone else. Competition will be allowed within categories of products, but the selection committee will look for how products are unique and different from those already available in the farmers’ market and how they differ from those of other applicants. Applicants who commit to all four markets up front are preferred.
If you have any questions about the Barrie Artists and Makers Markets or about the application then please contact the Barrie Farmers’ Market at info@barriefarmersmarket.ca.
